::Because for one Taking the Hive would cripple his tribute line. Thrall kills go to the Acolytes; that and the Acolyte kills go to the Knight or Wizard, and they pass ''that'' to the Ascendant Hive, who then pass it up to the Hive god who rules them. Oryx basically owns a food delivery service. Not only that but the Taken are his direct servants and anything they kill goes directly to him, because they are in effect '''him'''. This hurts him in a way because his worm will demand more and more tribute, which grows exponentially with each mighty feat; eventually his outtakes will exceed his intakes. So the Hive tribute system is the only thing keeping Oryx alive, and we Guardians inadvertently discovered that when we killed Crota, forcing him to literally drop everything out of vengeance and come to kill us. Had he been more cold-blooded Oryx would have stalled his invasion, building up an army from whatever the hell he was doing, and then come to attack us. Check the [[Noru'usk, Servant of Oryx]] Grimoire card for that. [https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyLore/comments/4zfn3p/why_doesnt_oryx_take_allmost_of_the_hive/ Read this] for more information.
