"And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going."
The following is a verbatim transcription of an official document for archival reasons. As the original content is transcribed word-for-word, any possible discrepancies and/or errors are included.

Step 1: Missive[edit]

Visit the Prismatic Recaster in the Annex of the Tower near the Drifter.

  • Visit the Prismatic Recaster in the Annex of the Tower near the Drifter.

"Thing's making some weird noises. Internal gravity's all… wrong. Never done that before. Bunch of Dark energy sloshing around… linking up with something on Io. Probably none too safe. Come take a look before it explodes."
— The Drifter

Transcript[edit]

The irregularity in the Drifter's machine is mirroring a gravitational disturbance being emitted from the Cradle. It has attracted attention from Savathûn's forces. Eris requests you clear a path to the Tree of Siver Wings.

Step 2: Gift[edit]

Complete the mission Interference on Io.

  • Interference completed.

"Savathûn will not hesitate to disrupt our progress. I call upon your strength once again, Guardian. Lay waste to Savathûn's forces in the Cradle and open the way."
— Transmission from Eris Morn

Transcript[edit]

After the Guardian defeats Savathûn's Witness, Eris deciphers the fifth message from the Pyramid. Besides them is the "gift": a growing silver branch from the tree of silver wings.

  • ERIS MORN: Interesting. This phrasing is directed at an equal. The message here is a “gift.” Something offered… in an outstretched hand.

Zavala transmats in.

  • ZAVALA: I’ve been reading your reports. The Darkness’s messages are…
  • ERIS MORN: Playful?
  • ZAVALA: I was going to say “obtuse.”
  • ERIS MORN: Come have a look at the latest.

Eris shows Zavala the growing silver branch.

  • ZAVALA: What is it?
  • ERIS MORN: A “gift.”
  • ZAVALA: This is not what we agreed upon.
  • ERIS MORN: I don’t remember agreeing to anything.
  • ZAVALA: Hmm… You’re playing a dangerous game. Good thing you’re a dangerous woman. The messages you’ve decrypted have proved invaluable. Now we know how our enemy thinks. Tell me: what if the Pyramids intend to exploit our curiosity?
  • ERIS MORN: We wield their gifts against them.
  • ZAVALA: And if it proves unwieldy?
  • ERIS MORN: Then it will be surrendered to the Vanguard for containment.
  • ZAVALA: Mmm. And what of the Hive?
  • ERIS MORN: Savathûn will not confront us directly. It is not her way.
  • ZAVALA: She thinks too much of herself… and too little of others.
  • ERIS MORN: Thank you.
  • ZAVALA: I look forward to your next report. The Drifter’s are… lacking.

Zavala transmat out while Eris remains. The Guardian interacts with the branch and accepts the gift.[2]

Step 3: Pendulum[edit]

Collect Calcified Light fragments on Io, Titan, Mars, and Mercury using Ghost's Nav mode. Defeat Savathun's Marionettes on Io and Titan.

  • Savathun's Marionettes defeated: 15
  • Calcified Light: 25

Eris believes the Pyramids offer a gift in a form we will understand: weaponry. But the branch seethes with an unstable Darkness.

"Hidden chatter tells of ancient Light bubbling to the surface, coaxed forth by the Pyramid's reshaping of our worlds. Furthermore, Savathûn's scouts chase the Pyramid like hungry dogs. She chains their will with ritual and spell-craft. Destroy them. Let the branch consume the Marionettes' bound essence and stabilize it by consuming calcified fragments. My incantations will coopt Savathûn's binding ritual and link the Pyramid's gift to you."
— Transmission from Eris Morn

Notes[edit]

Titan, Mars and Mercury each contain 5 fragments, Io has 10.

Step 4: Feed[edit]

Defeat targets with Void damage, chain precision multikills, and complete Gambit or Reckoning.

Higher tiers of Reckoning and defeating invaders/defeats as an invader grant additional progress.

  • Precision multikills: 25
  • Gambit and Reckoning: 18
  • Void kills: 100

The branch, though tempered and bound, still has a ravenous emptiness at its core. Find power on which it can feed.

"We cannot deny the Pyramid's power encased within this branch. With it bound through Savathûn's magic and tempered in Calcified Light, we may safely unleash its potential. Exploit this. Let the branch feed upon the Taken, upon those linked to Darkness by Worm or desperate promise, upon those with hearts of malice. From their ruin, we will cast a new weapon."
— Transmission from Eris Morn

Step 5: Shape[edit]

Decrypt your Gift at the Umbral Decoder.

  • Visit the Umbral Decoder.

The branch is sated and bound within an engram formed from Eris's incantations. The Gift is ready to take its true shape.

"Touch of Malice serves as a blueprint for this weapon. It was crude, vicious, but what I have made for you here is a thing of beauty. It is a catalyst of change, and nothing it graces will ever remain the same."
— Transmission from Eris Morn

Notes[edit]

Visit the Umbral Decoder to complete the quest and receive the Ruinous Effigy as your reward.

Transcript[edit]

The branch gifted to you by the Pyramid has gorged on paracausal power and been bound to you through Eris's repurposing of Savathûn's twisted rituals. Contained within an engram structure, the branch is ready to be forged within the Umbral Decoder. As you grip it, a cold emptiness stings your fingers briefly before subsiding, barely noticed. It is time for this gift to find its final shape.
