Ignovun, Chosen of Caiatl was the commander of Empress Caiatl's fleet and the strongest of her warriors. He was her Chosen champion to face The Guardian in one final Rite of Proving aboard the Imperial Land Tank Halphas Electus during the Clash of the Chosen.

Biography

Before becoming Caiatl's Champion, Ignovun was part of the surviving exodus from Torobatl after its fall to Xivu Arath and served as the leader of her Imperial Cabal fleet.[1] He is heralded as Caiatl's greatest warrior and would be selected by the Cabal Empress as her Champion to represent her to fight in a final Rite of Proving deep inside the Halphas Electus to determine the victor in a binding agreement between the Cabal Empire and the Vanguard of The Last City.[2]

A grand ceremony was held inside the Halphas Electus where every Legionnaire inside the tank had come to salute him for his promotion and anointing. Ignovun saw it as the appointment of his lifetime as he was given his weapon and its ammo, silver armor that shone in the light, and his helm crafted by the Psions that contained their "very will" that would allow him to harness Solar Psionic abilities. He would be told throughout the course of the ceremony his expectations and what he was fighting for - the control of Nessus, vassalship of the Vanguard, and glorious honor of the Cabal. Yet upon the ceremony's end, when he was left alone in the arena, Ignovun felt doubt. He thought back to the Dominus of recent past and how he had reasoned the Light like any weapon upon an opponent could be disarmed. Ignovun thought him wrong, believing it was from death not the Light Guardians drew their power. However, it was also then he mused on Ixel, the Far-Reaching's ravings and came to some considerations he had not before. He realized the Vanguard must have mortality brought to them if the Cabal are to triumph over them.[3]

Ignovun accepted his thinking would not save him, but reaffirmed that if the "Smallmen" could face death, he can as well. He would confront the Guardians seven weeks later after the failed treaty. Humanity's Champion would storm the Imperial Land Tank, facing Valus Ozysas, countless Vals, Honorguard, tanks and soldiers until reaching the arena where they would engage in ceremonial combat with Ignovun. Although he fought bravely and utilized his Solar Psionics and shield generators to even the fight with the Guardian, Ignovun fell after a glorious confrontation and thus made the Vanguard the victors in the Rite and the power to set the terms of an armistice with the Cabal Empire.[4]

Gameplay

Ignovun fights like most Centurions before him, tending to stay back while firing his Bronto Cannon, then closing the gap with his jump pack to finish them off with a temporal shockwave. However, occasionally Ignovun floats into the air and summons five solar seekers that track down and damage the enemy, almost guaranteeing death. Once every third of his health is drained, Ignovun will leap back onto his pedestal and summon an immunity shield, requiring Guardians to face him in personal combat, or risk their lives to destroy his shield, forcing Ignovun back into the fray. All the while during his fight, every phase will alter the environment of the arena with barriers and pillars extending and retracting out of the floor.

Trivia

  • A common misconception is that Ignovun is female since he has tusks, however upon closer inspection these tusks are purely decorative and likely symbolize him being Caiatl's Champion.
  • Ignovun shares some similarities with Thumos, the Unbroken in appearance, possessing the same frayed Crest backpiece albeit changed in color.
