Race to the Veil
Race to the Veil
Shortly after the Typhon Imperator arrived at Neptune, Calus noticed The Gaurdian making their way through his fleet. He was happy about the gaurdian's arrival and asked what they thought about his new Shadow Legion army. Calus laughed and told the gaurdian to enjoy every small and Hollow victory they could get, as he wanted them in the best of spirits, when the two adversaries eventually face off against eachother. Calus then took his Flagship and headed straight for the surface of Neptune, landing it on the outskirts of Neomuna. As the Shadow Legion began to invade and ravage through the city, Calus would aboard his ship to enjoy himself. He would later emerge out of a dark sarcophagus in his new disciple armored form. Calus then began boasting about how his semblance matched his inner beauty, and how powerful The Witness had made him.  Calus would then grab a crystal object of a pedestal and use his powers to transform it into a golden chalice. Grateful for his new found powers, and noticing that the chalice was empty, Calus called a toast to one of his tormentor gaurds. The tormentor however didn't respond and just mindless stood gaurd at the emperor's new throne, which disappointed calus. The Witness would later arrive and manifested itself infront of Calus, checking up on his progress. Calus would reassure The Witness that his forces are searching for the Veil as they speak, and that the Neptunians, even with their advanced technology, won't pose much of a threat. The Witness, then asked Calus if he had all that he ever wanted. To which Calus responded, that thanks to the Witness's power, He had become glorious. After The Witness left, Calus ordered his Shadow Legion to find the Veil as fast as possible so that he may move on from durdury, before sitting down on his new throne and began relaxing.
Moments later, Calus's Shadow Legion would discover the location of where the veil was. And the gaurdian could do nothing as The Shadow Legion began setting up heavy fortifications around The Veil's containment area. The Witness Would later contact Emperor Calus to check up on his progress again, but this time, it did so by possessing the Gaurdian's Ghost. Calus informed The Witness, that he had successfully captured the area around The Entombed Veil, but it would take some time to break through. Plus, the interference from both the Gaurdian and the Neptunians, would make things more difficult. The Witness acknowledged this, and reassured Calus that a few of Sol's protectors could not stop fate. The Witness then instructed Calus to link the Radial Mast and make sure that the Veil is destroyed. Calus agreed as the Witness released the gaurdian's ghost.
With the situation clear, the gaurdian was task by both Osiris and the Cloud Strider Rohan to storm The Typhon Imperator, and destroy the Radial Mast before Calus has a chance to link it up with the Veil. However, The herald of the Witness anticipated this and used the Radial Mast as a trap. Upon arrival in the Radial Mast's room, Calus appeared before the gaurdian in his psionic form. He mocked the gaurdian, excited that they were going to be "tonight's entertainment" and that this time, he had no riches to give them. Calus then unleashed a horde of Taken and a few of his shadow legion champion's on the gaurdian. All while calus tried to convince the gaurdian to join him. The gaurdian was able to expose the Radial Mast, but before the gaurdian could destroy it, A cabal sheild surrounded the Radial Mast, preventing the gaurdian from getting to it. The Gaurdian was forced to use a Strand Anomaly to fend off the rest Calus's remaining forces, but in doing so, rendered the gaurdian vulnerable and exhausted. Recognizing that the gaurdian wouldn't be accepting his offer to join him, Calus sent his champion, Val Bho'kaurl to finish off the weakened gaurdian. Calus told the gaurdian that they could not escape Oblivion and that they should embrace their end. But as the emperor watched on laughed at how weak and powerless the traveler's chosen warrior was, The gaurdian recieved coordinates inside the room to withdraw to a safe distance. Just then, Empress Caiatl, suddenly arrived in the room while piloting a Thresher and bombarded the arena, creating an opening which allowed the gaurdian to barley escape. Calus was angered by Caital's intervention, but regardless, the gaurdian still failed in their mission and Calus was able to secure the Radial Mast and prepared to link it to the Veil. However, Calus's actual attempt to establish a link using the Radial Mast and the Veil failed, Due to the gaurdian's efforts in clearing out the shadow legion fortifications and killing Val' Bor'kaurl. But at the ultimate cost, as Rohan was force to sacrifice himself in order to destroy the Radial Mast.
After this defeat, Calus was fell asleep and was approached by The Witness yet again, within his dream. The Emperor informed The Witness that his hold over the Veil had been "Temporarily loosened." The Witness then explained that Calus feared loss and that fear was the cause of his failure. Angered by this, Calus scolded The Witness, on how he had led this invasion with vicious subjugation, and claimed the Veil, all because he wanted it. Yet the Witness held the power of the universe within its grasp, yet never decided to do anything with it. The Witness Became Furious With Calus. And before Calus could finish his little rant, The Witness Shouted at Calus, Cracking reality around him. The Witness then ordered the emperor to secure the Veil, And that when the time is right, It will create the link between the veil and the traveler. Calus was terrified as he look upon the Witness, and apologized to it. He complied with his master's wishes and ensured that the Veil will be the Witness's. Calus awoke from his nightmare, and stared at his chalice for a moment, He then angrily crushed it in his hand and then tossed it away. Knowing that he must take matters into his own hands.
