Eaton was an isolated settlement on Earth established sometime after the Collapse during the Dark Age.

History[edit]

Isolated in a small valley, Eaton went unnoticed by the Warlords during their initial campaigns to carve out and claim territory.[1] The isolated nature of Eaton also worked against it as livestock and animals to hunt for food were scarce, leading to food shortages that required many parents to go without food to feed their children.[2] Their hunter Judson was well regarded for being able to find animals in the seemingly barren surroundings, but he was unaware those animals were placed in his path by Germaine, who was secretly a Risen and had his Ghost scout out packs of animals.[3]

After years of few visitors and increasing scarcity, Eaton was visited by a group of Iron Lords led by Lord Dryden. He offered every household in the village several weeks of food in exchange for letting them use the village for shelter and as a lure for the Warlord known as the Red Man. The villagers agreed, although Judson protested and warned that the Risen would get them all killed in the crossfire.[2] Seeking to avoid that fate, Judson snuck out of town during the night but was caught by the Red Man and interrogated, as he had spotted Germaine's Ghost and suspected Iron Lords were in the area. Calling in five other Warlords for reinforcements he coerced Judson into taking him to Eaton. A firefight quickly broke out between the Iron Lords and Warlords and all of the residents were slaughtered in the ensuing chaos.[1] Germaine was the only resident who survived the massacre and buried the charred remains of the residents before departing the destroyed town.[3]

Years later, Germaine, now known as Wu Ming, learned that Dryden was the only Iron Lord who survived the battle and that he had executed the Warlords. He also discovered that Dryden had violated the Iron Decree by using the town as bait and covered up his crimes to become one of the most revered members of the Iron Lords. Wu Ming visited the Iron Temple and met with Lord Felwinter to expose Dryden's crimes and see him executed for his role in the destruction of Eaton.[4]
