Personality and Traits
The Drifter is a jovial character, sometimes to the point of eccentricity. He is enthusiastic about his role as the host of Gambit and enjoys watching Guardians fight one another. He also appears to have experienced the Darkness, since he makes comments recognizing how the Taken feel whenever Guardians invade in matches of Gambit.
Whether making jokes or making threats, the Drifter never loses his smirking, irreverent temperament, or his affable manner of speech. He shows particular enthusiasm as the host of Gambit.

The Drifter has gone by many names and identities over the centuries, only to discard them again after some crisis or disillusionment. Even when he was first Risen, he refused to adopt a name. He has proven to be very secretive in regards to anything associated with his past, or more specifically his previous allegiance to the Shadows of Yor. Proof of this is when he asked the Guardian to look for Callum Sol, he never revealed any information regarding him or why another Guardian killed him. He likewise is not on good terms with the Shadows, as another Shadow tried to kill him after renouncing their ways and name. At the same time, he possess a level of fear for the Lone Gunmen, Shin Malphur.
The Drifter sees Light and the Traveler with distrust. Having lived through the age of Warlords, he has personally witnessed the worst that the Light can do, even when wielded by nominally heroic figures like the Iron Lords. [drifter's hideaway, honor among thieves]

On the other hand, The Drifter is very wary and distrusting towards the Nine, despite the "gifts" they have granted to him.
The Drifter himself resents being a Lightbearer, feeling that his immortality and power have cut him off from some kind of essential humanity. As such, he has never gotten along with his Ghost and treats it solely like a tool, even actively rejecting any help it volunteers.[hidden messages, honor among thieves] He envies the survival instinct of regular people: with only one life to spend, they live far more vitally than Risen who do nothing but throw away an endless number of their own in constant warfare. He particularly enjoys eating Hive. At one point, he described Motes of Dark as "delectable."

Another of the Drifter's eccentricities is his lack of name. He refused to adopt a name when he was first risen, and has since gone by and discarded several others. These include Germaine, Eli, Dredgen Hope, and Wu Ming (which can be read as "Nameless" or "No Name" in Mandarin Chinese). "The Drifter" itself started out as a nickname given to him by other people.

The Drifter is pessimistic about humanity's continued survival. He foresees a second Collapse occurring in the near future, and ultimately is interested only in surviving or escaping it.<ref>Bungie (2019/3/5), Destiny 2: Joker's Wild, Playstation 4, Activision Blizzard, Honor Among Thieves, 10.
