'''The Crash''' is the first story mission in ''Shattered Past'' and takes place in the Desert on Earth. After crashing in the Desert under unknown circumstances, the player's unconscious body is hauled from the wreckage of their ship, and awakens to the sight of several Rangers who invite the amnesiac pilot to join them on their way to a remote colony to investigate why it has dropped out of contact with the Protectorate's array stations.

''The screen fades into a view of a vast desert. The text "EARTH" and "25TH CENTURY" appear in the left hand corner of the screen. A team of Rangers are seen treking across the dunes. The Rangers pause at the peak of a sand dune to survey the terrain when a ship crashes in the distance. The Rangers see the crash and move towards it.
