The reason the image is of the raid is because it serves the purpose I mentioned above and showcases the character to those who want to see who Crota is. If you want to see who Master Chief is, you want to see a full physical profile, not a battle scene with him in it. The point is that a profile picture showcases the character to those who want a clear image in their minds of who he is.
