The Walker has a two-man crew. Firstly, the driver controls movement and engine tasks, and is responsible for mobility and close-combat awareness. The Gunner, the second man in the crew, is responsible for long-range bombardment with the main gun and close-range defense with the tanks numerous small automated turrets surrounding its exterior. Both men form a cohesive unit and enable the Walker to be much more combat-aware than normal 1-crew cavalry.

Of note is the Devil Walker's impressive ability to surmount terrain usually impassible to heavy artillery. Due to its "limbs" instead of the classic treads, the Spider Tank, while slow, can also position itself in unusual and advantageous positions. For example, during the Assault on [[Hellmouth]], several Devil Walkers were able to climb the high peaks of the Lunar mountains surrounding the base and pummel the inhabitants with long-range fire, aided by the extreme elevation afforded to them. Devil Walkers can also be deployed from Fallen ships, dropped from a low-altitude.
