"The line between Light and Darkness may have been broken, but you are not. All it did was make you stronger. Show the Darkness the true power of the Light."
Ikora Rey to The Guardian

The Final Shape, referred to by certain anime enthusiasts as Paradox, is the eighth expansion of Destiny 2 and twelfth expansion of the Destiny franchise.

The expansion's story centers around The Guardian and their revenge-driven fight to avenge the deaths of numerous civilians and protectors, including Zavala, by bringing an end to the Black Fleet and its army of dark forces who had entered the Solar System in a diabolical plan to reshape the universe in its own dark image. Along the way, the game's story also expands upon Mallory Bertha, the daughter of Hendrick Yor and Kaguya Narusaka; the Fallen House of Flame and Fireteam Infernium; the formation of a new Consensus within the frontiers of a new sanctuary; the arrivals of newly-risen Guardians, including Hannah Ciel; and the birth of a new power that has emerged within the heart of Deimos.

While the expansion and its contents themselves are available to all players for free, buying the expansion will also grant them early access to the Exotic Shadow Necrochasm Pulse Rifle and its Weapon Ornament and Catalyst, along with the Exotic Shadow Necrowing Sparrow, all four Seasons, exclusive cosmetics, and a brand-new Dungeon.

Description[edit]

LONG LIVE EVIL.

After the Guardian's triumph over the last line of threats, including the Hive Witch Queen Savathûn, the allies of humanity are still reeling from the effects of the Pyramids' arrival, but now their world has come under attack by a new dark force unlike anything they had ever faced, and this time, it has a new name: The Black Swordsman, who now leads a dark army of fallen Guardians and enemy forces that have called upon the Darkness and destroyed the Last City in a diabolical plan to enshroud the universe. Work with the Vanguard remnants, House of Flame, Empress Caiatl's forces, Eris Morn, Kayla Heartfilia, and Mal to avenge Zavala's death and prevent the Black Fleet from casting humanity into an age of darkness for good. Become a slayer of our worst nightmares.

OVERCOME THE DARKEST NIGHT.

With the rise of the Darkness across the universe due to the end of the Traveler, the Guardians are scattered and humanity is nearer to extinction than ever before. Their situation gets even worse, however, with the appearance of the Black Swordsman and his army of Avatars. With the Darkness closing in and this new threat posing a danger never seen before, how will the Guardians fight back against the Darkness?

BECOME EVIL INCARNATE.

Guardians have always been warriors of the Light and Darkness. In The Final Shape, for the first time, Guardians harness the power of a mysterious new energy with a new elemental power: Fusion. Along with an arsenal of all new gear, Guardians of each class can discover and wield devastating new powers in the form of powerful new subclasses and Supers. Surprise your enemies as a Hunter Cursebreaker with Fatality Chain, pulverize them with the Warlock Shadowdancer's spellbinding Blade of Devastation, or flatten them with the Titan Stormwaker's flaming Blackout Hammer. Claim and master the Huntress, Shinobi, and Meister classes. Fight your way into the heart of Aincrad. Face The Black Swordsman and The White Angel.

FIGHT BEYOND TIME AND POWER.

There are those who believe the worlds from what remains of the Solar System are nothing more than frozen Golden Age graveyards, its treasures long ago swallowed by ice, fire, and darkness. You know better. Beneath the ruins lie countless relics, an arsenal of weapons, and more. Claim this cutting-edge tech from the clutches of time and dare to tame these wastelands. Discover unique weapons and armor in ways both new and old - construct weapons and armors out of Glassblaze Essence with Hannah Ciel and Eris Morn, gather Nightcore-themed gear through the Gamechanger Pass, and collect exciting new Exotics from quests and enemy drops.

NEW PRESAGES AHEAD...

More of ancient secrets await your discovery, spoils of their exploits yet to be collected and a dark past to finally be discovered. Only time will finally allow the moment you discover them all.

Overview[edit]

The expansion takes place throughout the Solar System.

The story revolves around a massive reawakening within the heart of the Ascendant Realm by an armada of humanoid phantoms known as the Avatars, who are led by Kirito, the Black Swordsman; Asuna, the White Angel; and the Dark Guardians; all of whom lead a syndicate of time criminals and villainous teenagers called the Shadowkeepers and serve Vyrellia, the progenitor of the Collapse who had sought to usher in the end of the City Age through the destruction of the Traveler and its Lightbound protectors ever since the Golden Age began.

Throughout the events leading up to and during the Second Collapse, countless Guardians and protectors, including Vanguard Commander Zavala, have been drained of their Light and murdered by the Shadowkeepers, who have received help from Mallory Bertha, who fell under the influence of the Darkness prior to the Avatars' attack on the universe, and it is up to the Guardian to avenge their deaths and free the survivors who have been captured by Vyrellia's forces.

In the campaign, the Guardian must work alongside various allies, including the Vanguard remnants, Caiatl's forces, the House of Flame, Nagihiko, Hannah Ciel, Eris Morn, and Kayla Heartfilia to free Mallory from the Darkness's influence and hunt down the Shadowkeepers who lead the Avatars, culminating in the discovery of the mysterious Rebirth World known as Aincrad.

The expansion's plot is non-linear, and its missions can be tackled in any order.

The missions consist of hunting down the resurrected Shadowkeepers, including Eobard Thawne, the Reverse-Flash; Malcolm Merlyn, the Dark Archer; Zevon, the Son of Yzma; Fikrul, the Fanatic; Phoenixaro Uchihamaki, the Taken Emperor; Sasuke Uchiha; and possibly more, along with their dark allies, including Kotrik, the Kell of the House of Shadows; Zharves, a surviving Deathsinger and the leader of the Shadow Brood; Hydrax, a Vex prototype modeled after Panoptes and the mastermind of the Shadow Divisve; Gha'arn, a Cabal warlord and the Dominus of the Shadow Legion; Thu'urg, a Taken Cabal commander and the leader of the Reborn; and Vayeriks, the first of Fikrul's Scorn army who leads the Cult of the Scorned.

After doing this, players receive access to the expansion's finale, where they confront Kirito, Asuna, the Dark Guardians, and Vyrellia to destroy the Darkness and save all of humanity and the entire multiverse.

The expansion also delves into the backstory of Mallory Bertha's past and the ancient war that triggered the events of Destiny, while Satomi will play a special role in the narrative for the expansion's second Campaign called Final Dreams.

During the course of the expansion, various Guardians and Lightbound allies will play prominent roles throughout the Seasons, providing the Guardian with assistance in defending Tokyopolis and the Solar System against their enemies. In Season of the Inferno, players work with Venth and Koriks to defend Rasputin against the united forces of the Lucent Brood, Xivu Arath's Horde, Savathûn's Brood, and Grasp of Nokris; at the same time, they also have to take the fight to Kirito and Asuna's eldest son Tatsuyi Kirigaya and his army in order to save the Traveler once more and find out the truth behind the corpse's mysterious existence. In Season of Deception, players are called on by Ayano Aishi to defend Mallory and her family against unsettling odds; at the same time, they also have to work with Tyrakus and the House of Eclipse to uncover a centuries-old conspiracy and stop Malice and his forces from awakening an ancient evil and reverting the world back to the age of first insanity. In Season of the Champion, while working with the Tiger Man, players have to team up with an old foe to fight back against a Cabal invasion and stop a new pretender from reviving the Red Legion. In Season of the City, players partake in a new Age of Triumph and look back on all the events that led up to this moment.

Changes[edit]

Starting with the launch of The Final Shape and Season of the Inferno, various contents from previous games and Seasons will be added into the Destiny Content Vault, allowing players to enjoy all the new contents being added to the game by the developers, although it is possible that they would come back throughout each Season in The Final Shape. More info will come soon, but here are a few major changes coming to the game.
